Jinan University Institute for Environmental and Climate Research (ECI) was established in May 2016. In accordance with the international academic team construction, ECI has formed a high-level talent team, which is aiming at the intersection of atmospheric environment and climate change, and worked on the prospective and originally academic innovation. Our research interests are including: (1) sources, causes and prevention of air pollution, (2) interaction between climate change and air pollution, (3) interaction between aerosol and cloud, (4)decision support of regional air quality improvement. ECIalways follows the principle of equal emphasis onbasic research and decision support, develops production and research cooperation, and serves the national economic construction and social development.
The institute has gained the authority to confer a doctor’s degree in the first-class discipline of Ecology, master’s degree in the first-class discipline of Environmental Science and Engineering, two master’s degrees in the second-class discipline of Environmental Science, EnvironmentalEngineering, Professional Master’s degree in Environmental Engineering. ECI has built a complete system of education and research, including four graduate training directions: (1) atmospheric monitoring and assessment, (2) atmospheric chemistry and physics; (3) health and ecological effects of environmental changes,and(4) regional atmospheric environment regulation.
ECI has an energetic and prestigious faculty team with 49 members at present, including 11 professors, 5 associate professors, 2 distinguished associate researcher, 6 assistant professors, 6 postdoctoral researchers, and 9 guest professors and so on.Among these faculties, there are 10 doctorsupervisors and 18 master supervisors. In the team there are one Academician, one “Ten Thousand Scientific Leader Awards” winner, three “The National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars” winners, and many other academic awardwinners. Most of the professors have overseas study or work experience. It is an academic team which is innovative, enterprising, rigorous, cooperative and vigorous.
At present, ECI has been granted the research funding on 15 national and provincial projects, and 14 local service projects, including 1 National Key Research and Development Program of China, 3 key Program of NSFC and 3 Science Foundation for Youths of NSFC, 1 Introduced Innovative R&D Team of Guangdong, 1 Guangdong-Hong Kong Joint InnovationPlatform, and a number of Guangdong provincial and local environmental protection science and technology projects. The total amount of scientific research funds is more than 70 million RMB.
ECI attaches great importance to international academic exchange and cooperation, has established good relations of cooperation and communication with plenty of world-class universities and academic institutes. For example, UC Berkeley, Max Planck Institute for Chemistry (MPIC), Queensland University of Technology (QUT), Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), Tsinghua University, Peking University,Guangzhou Institute of Geochemistry, CAS.
ECI has good research conditions and facilities. The laboratory and office area cover about 4000 m2, and has built uplabsfor analysis, measurement and simulation, one mobile platform for atmosphere environment monitoring and simulation, High-Performance Computing Cluster ,and one atmospheric chemical and climate comprehensive observation experiment base covering about 4000m2.In addition, ECI has set up the joint labs with the QUT,HKUST,GuangdongMeteorologicalService,Guangdong Environmental Monitoring Center, Shaoguan Nanning National Background Air Quality Station. We share resources, cooperate on frontier research, and train graduate students jointly.
ECI is a young, developing and growing academic institution. Welcome outstanding talents from domestic and overseas to join us. Let’s work on environmental and climate science research and improve our environmental quality together.
